problema con ubuntu 8.04

da qualche giorno sono passato da ubuntu 7.04 (che non mi ha mai dato problemi) a 8.04:
adesso ogni tanto il monitor diventa nero e non posso fare altro che spegnere il computer e riaccenderlo.

cosa posso fare? da cosa dipende?

il computer è un ideaprogress gr@fico (clevo), Processore Intel Pentium®4 da 2.51 MHz; Memoria DDR: 1Gb; Scheda Video Ati Radeon Mobility 9000.

potete aiutarmi? (sono un principiante)

...dovresti provare a fornire qualche informazione in più quale, ad esempio marca e modello ("ideaprogress gr@fico (clevo)" questa è la marca e il modello?)...oppure riportare l'output dei comandi;

....presumo che tu abbia accesso al portatile...    ...se si, apri un terminale e riporta l'output dei comandi;

In più, come ti ho scritto in un precedente post, riporta il file xorg.conf che trovi in /etc/X11....se hai acsesso al portatile non ti dovrebbe essere difficile riportare queste informazioni. In più, presumo che Progress sia il modello, la marca qual è?...HP, Toshiba, Acer, Asus etc.....

..no, no, tutto a posto. 

...da quello che hai riportato sembrerebbe tutto regolare; anche perché se tutto ti funziona fino al momento in cui lo schermo diventa nero, allora non penso che il problema possa risiedere in una errata confgiurazione.

Non è che, per caso, interviene il salvaschermo oppure interviene il sistema di power off della CPU perché, ad esempio, il processore riscalda troppo durante l'uso? Lo schermo nero avviene a tempi fissi oppure è variabile di accensione in accensione?

Una ulteriore curiosità, riporta l'output (anche se forse un po lungo) del comando;

non credo proprio possa essere il salvaschermo.

il processore si riscalda troppo? forse, l'ultima volta che è diventato nero il computer stava andando da 8-9 ore (CPU spesso al 100%).
comunque altre volte è capitato anche dopo mezzora...

adesso cerco di tenerlo acceso per periodi brevi, anche perché dopo alcune volte che mi capita di doverlo spegnere a forza, alla fine mi da errore e non mi carica il SO e sono costretto a reinstallare tutto.
per questo per me è fondamentale risolvere il problema.

...vedo che nei moduli ci sono anche quelli per la sezione "thermal" e altri. Prova ad aprire uno di quei programmi che ti visualizza la temperatura e ogni tanto dagli un'occhiata.

P.S.:Se non cambi distribuzione, potrebbe darsi anche che con la nuova versione il problema non si presenti più...

Se provi ad utilizzare una live (ovvero una di quelle distribuzione che non "toccano" l'ahrd disk se non a "richiesta") da lo stesso problema?

ne ho usate tante di lve (mint, xubuntu, tiger, etc...) base ubuntu e non mi danno problemi fino a quando non le installo...
anche per questo volevo provare una distro come puppy se riuscissi a installarla e a farla partire da usb

non so cosa fare, devo tornare a ubuntu 7.04 e aspettare 8.10 sperando di risolvere il problema... forse?
mi dispiacerebbe visto che mi sono abituato a pacchetti che non ci sono in 7.04 e volendo installarli non so come spacchettare.

proverei volentieri mandriva (usa gnome?) o altro, ma fino ad ora ho usato ubuntu e derivate perché non so come impostare la connessione con le altre.
proverei volentieri anche puppy, tra le piccole, ma quando ho provato la live anche se mi segnalava che ero connesso non mi si apriva nessuna pagina e quindi...
insomma il problema con distro non base ubununtu è che non riesco a navigare e quindi a vedere la gestione dei pacchetti, degli aggiornamenti, ecc...

...la ONE puoi sceglierla con Gnome, XFCE e KDE.    ...riguardo alla connessione è strano, visto che hai la mia stessa scheda di rete e quindi non dovresti avere problemi di sorta.
