Ciao a tutti.

Ho una scheda d’acquisizione video terratec grabster av 250 usb, da collegare ad un portatile hp Pavillon dv6000, intel core 2 duo 3000, nvidia geforce go 7400, 1 gb ram, 120 Gb hd, 2 hd esterni usb.
Qualcuno ha idea di come posso fare il collegamento, perché per ora non ci sono riuscito.

Mi serve principalmente per scaricare vecchie cassette video 8 da telecamera senza compressione, in modalità raw, possibilità descritta dalla casa.

La casa mi ha, cordialmente e “simpaticamente”, risposto che per linux non danno assistenza….
Utilizzo Ubuntu 8.04.

In un blog mi hanno detto che il driver dovrebbe essere:

Poiché la sintassi della linea di comando di linux mi è piuttosto sconosciuta, ho provato scrivendo nel terminale:

Comunque, nell'ordine; il modulo del kernel è stato caricato (lo hai caricato)?...il firmware, qualora dovesse essere installato, l'hai installato?...che chipset presenta il device in questione?...da una parte si legge em2880, da un'altra l'SAA della Philips...

Riporta l'output del comando;

modprobe -l | grep em28

...uso una Slackware e il modulo in questione a mesi chiama "em28xx"; potrebbe darsi che nel tuo caso sta cercando di caricare un modulo di nome non corretto.

Scaricate dal repository “experimental” con Hg-clone
Aprite un terminale e digitate:

Entrate nella directory con:

Caricate il modulo nel kernel

..prova a fare una cosa; impartisci (con le credenzili di amministratore) il comando;

tail -f /var/log/messages

dopodiché colleghi il device USB e riporti (con un semplice copia&incolla) le nuove righe che appaiono nel comando di cui sopra.
Per interrompere il comando tail puoi premere Ctrl-C.

Riguardo la parte che non hai capito, mica per caso sul manula è indicato il chipset (il modello del circuito integrato "principale") posto all'interno del device USB?
Ad esempio se il device da te in possesso utilizza il chipset EM2880 allora ha questo circuito integrato;

Di sicuro il motivo per cui non ti funziona è perché il firmware non è quello adatto alla tua scheda. Devi dapprima installare il firmware adatto per capire se il modulo caricato possa o meno andare bene per la tua scheda.

...nel CD/DVD a corredo della scheda non c'è un qualche pacchetto che possa ricordare il firmware?...se non c'è si prova con una ricerca via Internet.

in windows hai i drivers da installare... il firmware aggiornato di un apparato viene eventualmente installato sulla memoria flash dell'apparato stesso.
cosa intendete per firmware da installare: quello dell'apparato o i driver dell'apparato?
i drivers non ho idea di dove trovarli, e il firmware dell'apparato penso che sia scaricabile sul sito originale, se è previsto l'upgrade.
nel caso si debba programmare qualcosa, penso proprio di aver la necessità di essere guidato passo passo, perché le mie conoscenze in materia sono zero, come avevo già confessato...

...qui il concetto è un po diverso così come la "dinamica"; hai un modulo del kernel (o più moduli del kernel in caso di dipendenze) il quale serve ad "interloquire" con il device che si vuole far funzionare. Alcuni device però, così come hai riportato, necessitano del caricamento del firmware per poter funzionare correttamente. In GNU/Linux il firmware viene "depositato" in /lib/firmware e caricato all'occorrenza ovvero dopo che il modulo del kernel è stato caricato e appena ne fa richiesta per poter far funzionare il device (praticamente appena viene caricato).....spiegazione un po grezza (e non proprio corretta al 100%) ma penso, e spero, abbastanza intuitiva.

Proviamo a vedere se carica qualche firmware tra quelli che hai scaricato e se si quale; collega il device, carica il modulo e riporta l'output del comando;

dmesg | grep firmware

Mi spiace, ma sono un alunno un po' lento a capire.
Quale firmware devo cercare?
Ti riferisci forse al firmware che è residente nella flash memory dell'apparato?
Oppure esistono dei moduli da caricare nel kernel, che nel mondo linux vengono chiamati anch'essi firmware, ma che nulla hanno a che vedere con quello che c'è nella memoria, o nelle eprom, dell'apparato?
In ogni caso non ho la più pallida idea di dove cercarli, perché non so neppure che estensione abbiano, o in quali siti o blog siano messi a disposizione...
Se per caso è qualcosa da compilare, devo leggermi un file di help che ho copiato da qualche parte, per poterlo fare...
